18 Beneficial Herbal Teas to Nourish the Female Body

When life is flying by, either taking care of your kiddos or running anything from a classroom to a company, quick and healthy choices can be the difference between a good day and a great day! There are so many options on drinks to support your life — but we are passionate about herbal teas.

Health benefits of herbal tea

If you’re looking for an easy way to drink more water or help you quit coffee, many people turn to drinking tea. With its low-calorie flavor, caffeine-free profile, and natural health benefits, it’s truly an asset to living well.

Let’s dig into one of our favorite topics — herbal wellness tea! We’ll look at the difference between tea varieties, some of our favorite herbal ingredients, and how loose leaf teas can benefit you every day!

Regular Teas vs. Herbal Teas

We love cuddling up with a great book or a sentimental movie to enjoy a cuppa, but whether you’re hustling out the door or sitting down at the end of a long day, tea is always our beverage of choice!

There’s a variety of factors that come into play when you’re choosing a tea — dietary needs, flavor profiles, or caffeine content can truly narrow down which beverage is the best for you to drink.

Tea comes in a variety of forms. Matcha Green, Green, Black, Oolong, and White Teas all come from the Camellia sinensis plant — each of these teas brings different levels of beneficial nutrients as well as varying levels of caffeine.

Herbal Teas are a separate category from traditional tea. These compounds called tisanes, are made up of herbs, spices, tea leaves, flowers, and fruits. Because of herbal tea’s direct link to so many plants, each ingredient has its own realm of specific health benefits.

Loose Leaf vs. Bagged Teas

When you’re browsing the tea aisle at the grocery store, most of the selection has been processed and packaged in tea bags. The process of packaging alone takes away from the flavor and health benefits.

When you have pieces of the whole plant instead of ground up elements, more essential oils are released, providing a better aroma and taste. Don’t settle for ingredients that won’t deliver! Loose-leaf teas provide a better flavor and quality than bagged teas.

How do I brew loose-leaf teas?

Brewing tea shouldn’t be intimidating. Once you’ve tasted your first cup, you’ll be coming back for more and will be a pro before you know it.

To get the best flavor, the tea must have room to move in the water. By using a stainless steel steeper or a teapot, you are able to get a perfect cup of tea from loose leaves.

To brew a good cup, bring the water to a boil, add 1-2 tsp of tea per cup, and let the teapot or infuser sit for 3-4 minutes. Also, the hotter you keep the water, the better the tea!

Remove your infuser from your cup and enjoy straight away or, if using a teapot, pour the brewed tea into individual cups through a strainer and serve either hot or iced!  Add milk or honey as desired.

From the type of tea to the ingredients and the process, there’s so many factors that go into the perfect cup — but once you’ve found the best tea for you and your life, you will gain a sense of wellness and control over what you put in your body!

Here are some of our favorite organic herbal tea ingredients, along with their amazing health benefits!

Chamomile

Chamomile tea is one of the most common herbals because it truly helps you unwind at the end of the day. From antioxidants to anti-inflammatory elements, it’s a well-rounded health booster! This tea can help you calm, feel relaxed, and give some relief from anxiety.

Cinnamon Bark

Cinnamon Bark holds a great antioxidant level and can improve heart health, fight infections, reduce inflammation, and relieve menstrual cramps!

Dandelion Leaf

Who would have thought this simple flower could be so nutritious! Dandelions contain many vitamins, minerals, and fiber — it also holds potential cancer-fighting and bone-strengthening properties.

Echinacea

This plant found in the daisy family is mainly used to help boost the immune system — but it can also help alleviate pain, inflammation, and migraines! Loaded with antioxidants, Echinacea can also help protect you against oxidative stress.

Elderberry

Elderberries have reached superfood status with its ever-growing popularity for building the immune system and warding off colds and viruses. The flavanols, antioxidants, and anthocyanins work together to ward off illness. Due to COVID-19, be cautious when digesting this immune booster — it is traditionally included in a regimen for building a strong immune system but can set off a cytokine storm if taken while you have the COVID-19 virus.

Fenugreek Seed

Mamas have used this remedy for generations to increase milk production. But Fenugreek can also alleviate digestive issues, such as upset stomach and inflammation. It may also help control appetite, relieve acid reflux, and lower inflammation. When you’re raising a family, this is an easy treatment for many issues you may face on a daily basis.

Ginger Root

A staple in many medicine cabinets, ginger root provides a variety of benefits from one source. Some chemicals in ginger help to fight off viruses and bacteria, supporting dental health as well as your immune system. Most famously, ginger helps ease digestive discomfort and nausea. Ginger is also anti-inflammatory, helping to ease arthritis, sore muscles, and period pain.

Green Roobios

This tea, made from a plant in South Africa, is prepared similarly to regular tea leaves and is a great tasting caffeine-free alternative to black tea. It is packed with healthy antioxidants and may lower LDL cholesterol and raise good cholesterol!

Honeybush

Honeybush is a sweeter close relative of the rooibos plant. It has long been used as an expectorant to help treat colds and the flu and contains many anti-inflammatory and cancer-fighting antioxidants. Whether you need some help breathing with a cold or want the general health benefits, Honeybush makes a delicious and soothing drink.

Lemon Balm

There’s nothing more soothing than breathing in a fresh lemon scent. As an aromatherapeutic, it can help ease stress and anxiety. Lemon Balm also aids in sleep and digestion.

Licorice Root

From ancient Greek to Eastern culture, Licorice Root has been used to help individuals dealing with acid reflux and stomach issues to reduce inflammation and relieving cold symptoms for thousands of years. Individuals should only consume one serving of Licorice Root per day to avoid undesirable side effects.

Marshmallow Root

Marshmallow Root has long been used in easing digestive issues, as it forms a coating throughout the digestive tract, as well as calming coughs.

Passionflower Herb

Passionflower is possibly effective to help reduce anxiety as well as anxiety surrounding medical procedures. Studies have shown that it aids naturally-occurring acids in the central nervous symptom that results in many positive benefits, including a balanced mood and better sleep. And who doesn’t need that every day?!

Red Raspberry Leaf

Red Raspberry has so many benefits for women’s health, it’s hard to know where to begin! From easing PMS symptoms to tightening pelvic muscles and providing nutrition for pregnancies, this herbal remedy is a delicious option for women any day of the week!

Rose Hips

Rose hips provide a potent source of Vitamin C and iron, helping to boost the immune system and iron levels in the blood. We love this ingredient for women after their period is over — it helps you recover and feel back to “normal” faster.

Skullcap Herb

Skullcap has been used in many traditional and natural medicinals to treat conditions from insomnia to anxiety. When you need a good night’s sleep, this is an amazing place to start!

Slippery Elm

Slippery Elm, taken from the inner bark of a tree, has been used to treat coughs, digestive issues, UTIs, and other inflammation.

Yerbe Mate

Yerbe Mate is full of many nutrients, including antioxidants and amino acids, vitamins, and minerals. From helping improve sports performance and boosting immunity to lowering risk of heart disease, the drink contains a wide variety of benefits for both men and women.
