When life is flying by, either taking care of your kiddos or running anything from a classroom to a company, quick and healthy choices can be the difference between a good day and a great day! There are so many options on drinks to support your life — but we are passionate about herbal teas.
Health benefits of herbal tea
If you’re looking for an easy way to drink more water or help you quit coffee, many people turn to drinking tea. With its low-calorie flavor, caffeine-free profile, and natural health benefits, it’s truly an asset to living well.
Let’s dig into one of our favorite topics — herbal wellness tea! We’ll look at the difference between tea varieties, some of our favorite herbal ingredients, and how loose leaf teas can benefit you every day!
Regular Teas vs. Herbal Teas
We love cuddling up with a great book or a sentimental movie to enjoy a cuppa, but whether you’re hustling out the door or sitting down at the end of a long day, tea is always our beverage of choice!
There’s a variety of factors that come into play when you’re choosing a tea — dietary needs, flavor profiles, or caffeine content can truly narrow down which beverage is the best for you to drink.
Tea comes in a variety of forms. Matcha Green, Green, Black, Oolong, and White Teas all come from the Camellia sinensis plant — each of these teas brings different levels of beneficial nutrients as well as varying levels of caffeine.
Herbal Teas are a separate category from traditional tea. These compounds called tisanes, are made up of herbs, spices, tea leaves, flowers, and fruits. Because of herbal tea’s direct link to so many plants, each ingredient has its own realm of specific health benefits.
Loose Leaf vs. Bagged Teas
When you’re browsing the tea aisle at the grocery store, most of the selection has been processed and packaged in tea bags. The process of packaging alone takes away from the flavor and health benefits.
When you have pieces of the whole plant instead of ground up elements, more essential oils are released, providing a better aroma and taste. Don’t settle for ingredients that won’t deliver! Loose-leaf teas provide a better flavor and quality than bagged teas.
How do I brew loose-leaf teas?
Brewing tea shouldn’t be intimidating. Once you’ve tasted your first cup, you’ll be coming back for more and will be a pro before you know it.
To get the best flavor, the tea must have room to move in the water. By using a stainless steel steeper or a teapot, you are able to get a perfect cup of tea from loose leaves.
To brew a good cup, bring the water to a boil, add 1-2 tsp of tea per cup, and let the teapot or infuser sit for 3-4 minutes. Also, the hotter you keep the water, the better the tea!
Remove your infuser from your cup and enjoy straight away or, if using a teapot, pour the brewed tea into individual cups through a strainer and serve either hot or iced! Add milk or honey as desired.
From the type of tea to the ingredients and the process, there’s so many factors that go into the perfect cup — but once you’ve found the best tea for you and your life, you will gain a sense of wellness and control over what you put in your body!
